Update/Elvis

Been ages since I've posted - was doing BBC blog in December, struggling with the snow (we don't do snow very well in this country) and a hundred other things. Have also done a lot of work reconstructing the site and there's plenty of new stuff to check out here.

Marking the 75th birthday of Elvis with a couple of fun materials:

Christmas Carol: abridged opening with activities, film links etc

I've updated my Christmas Carol materials: along with the abridged opening via Scribd, there are activities, teaching ideas and film clip links. Should be useful for classroom use - particularly for English GCSE.

Boy in the Balloon? Read about the man who flew from his garden

Who knows what happened to the boy who didn't fly away in a balloon? But a Californian man did really fly from his garden in a balloon tied to a chair. You can read about it here.

Beatles Learning Activities

The remastered Beatles albums and the new video game have generated a lot of interest. The Story of the Beatles is a good starting point for projects and other classroom activities.

The learning activities page is here: http://www.gradedreading.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/TheBeatlesStory/activities/quiz.html

Working on a Beatles Webquest - will post when ready.

BBC blog/busy Sept

Completed my month as BBC Teacher Blogger. Great fun and seems to have gone down pretty well, judging by comments from the editors and the students. You can check it out here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/communicate/blog/teacher/

The Beatles

All Beatles fans (and there are a fair few of us) are eagerly awaiting the new remastered editions of our favourite albulms. Check out the various documentaries on BBC Radio 2 on BBC Iplayer.

You might also try introducing your students to my
Story of the Beatles - there are plenty of youtube clips, plus a couple of audio documentaries I produced myself.

New & Improved: The Signalman and The Body Snatcher

Thanks to the wonders of Scribd, I've been able to embed PDFs of some of the most popular materials on the site. There is a new version of The Mary Celeste and slightly revised ones of The Signalman, The Body Snatcher and The Marble Finger.
Many thanks to the visitor who pointed out some major typos etc in the original version of The Marble Finger.

New Young Learners material

Some new materials for young learners:

1.
Fred and Rita: a series of dialogues which first appeared in Ming Pao Daily.

Fred and Rita are college students. Rita needs to work but Fred always wants to talk!

2.
Nocturnal Animals: this came out of my six-year-old daughter's school project. The subject for her UK SATS exam (!) inspired me to prepare something at elementary level.
